I've already had friends help with "unstuffing" the house where I live - and I could use a whole lot more help. I've come to realize that I have a mental ... squiggle ... when it comes to organization and simplifying - and so having people help is critical. I've internalized, repeated and expanded upon a lot of shame messages over the years. To shift and reframe those messages. I've learned to image positive outcomes ... to affirm what I've accomplished so far - to do little bits and to comfort and support myself when I hit an emotional wall about stuff. I've also learned to try to keep areas neat that have been cleared ... to put like stuff together in one area - and to use reuseable bags for shopping :-). Little by little. The cat who's with me for a couple weeks is also ... shifting things around [smiling] - in a relatively manageable way. He's mature but still young enough to zing around the house - and careful enough to have not really wrecked things so far [appreciative look].

Help

Hi Sylvia, my friend the computer isn't cooperating to let me see your first picture, only the 2nd. Perhaps it depicts a room so shockingly disorganized that the computer can't compute it! Oh well, what are we to do? The thing that is the worst about it, for me, is that on a spiritual and emotional level, I deeply appreciate environments like the one in the lower picture. That room is peaceful and beautiful. Sometimes my own home drives me nuts. A friend of mine won't spend time in my house because it's so messy, it drives her nuts. And I can really see her point of view! :)
I am now going to go clean my room…at least that is a start! That bedroom looks so restful….
I tidy when I can [and push my family to do when they can] and when my child-self who lived in a home like a museum surfaces, then I rationalize: the lotus flower is known for its purity in rising from the mud; but not for cleaning out the mud!
It's all about replacing things from here to there!
But that little child is persistent, and woke me today to tell me to tidy my desk- so now i”ll do so. Lots of reminders today!
The order in your bedroom is inspiring me to get rid of lots of “stuff” that I don't need!
I got a nice little book, check it out!
Hi, folks - first - a confession - both the pictures are from the internet - to represent the feel of the way things currently are - and where I hope to go with the “unstuffing”. Peaceseeker - I hope the second picture is inspiring for you as it is for me. One of the connections between my friend Brad and I was that we both live(d) in clutter [sheepish smile] which had big benefits and drawbacks, as you can imagine. I learned a lot through that experience with him in terms of dealing with myself and things.
Alluvja - *thank you* for the link - I've bookmarked it - and hope to draw on the resource as intuition leads me.

Sylvia,
We understand, support and encouragement is offered… allowing ourselves to let go, not to cling to “things” we think are important that we have not see or looked at for a long time…. letting go, even after living in community and in a very small space I still managed to fill it up mostly because it was not organized in a way to have places to store or organize… all excuses…
Jeff
Hi, Jeff - thank you for the support and encouragement. Since I've inherited this house - I especially struggle with other people's stuff - but I am certainly a collector in my own right … particularly of art supplies, books, gemstone beads and origami paper food and cooking supplies.
peace -
Sylvia
Sounds like our house, yours, mine, theirs, and everything else…
I am Love, Jeff
Hi, everyone - I took a big step in “unstuffing” today. I called the local auctioneer who is probably coming out tomorrow to look at items of interest.
It feels like the timing is finally right to make this step.
I deeply appreciate your supportive presences here -
Sylvia
