According to family stories - my parents chose Sylvia as my first name because it was neutral to both of them - one choice my father suggested belonged to an old girlfriend, etc.  He liked at least one of the songs about Sylvia - I later came to hate one of the others because grade schoolmates would sing it incessantly [wry grin].  I do like the name for other reasons - in Latin, Sylvus = tree and in English, sylvan = having to do with trees.  In Roman legend, Rhea Sylvia was the mother of the twin boys Romulus and Remus who were raised by wolves and Romulus became the founder of Rome.

I chose "peacehealer" for my Gaia name because for me the two are intimately intertwined - healing leads to peace, peace leads to healing - and the living tapestries of our lives weave the two in and out and through and within each other.

gentle blessings -

I don’t personally know many Sylvia’s, in fact you are my only Sylvia!

Now that is cool!

“Sylvia’s mother said…” You mean that one? This is the only one I know!

Oh I know…those kids in school…darn them…!

How many times have I misspelled your name, no really? I always want to put the l before the y as in Slyvia. Now I don’t know any Slyvia’s, only one Sylvia!

Hi, Denim - yes, the “Sylvia’s mother said” song was the school kids’ choice [wry look].  Sylly and Saliva were other ways to torment [wrinkling nose].

In grade school I can remember knowing only one other Sylvia.  When I got to college, we seemed to be all over the place - three of us became friends before even starting classes - another joined the group second year.  There’s a great graduation picture of the 4 of us with our heads all turning in different directions - because a bunch of people were calling our name [g].  That first year the woman who checked me into the dorm was also named Sylvia, and there was a student the year ahead of me named Sylvia who lived in that same dorm.

I met my closest friend named Sylvia in a pre-class volleyball game - folks kept calling Sylvia and I knew they weren’t calling to me - so I walked up and introduced myself [chuckling].  We were sitting together for the evening program and another woman came up and said “hi, my name is Sylvia!”  We looked at her and said “so are we.”

Not good grammar but a great come-back [g].  After sorting out the understandable confusion - the three of us were friends.

I do use the name Sly sometimes - carefully, since there are some echoes of grade school torment there, too.

peace and blessings -

LOL…I figured it was this song! The good old Doctor!

Oh your so lucky to have other Sylvia’s in your life. As you know, Denim was my name I legally added later in life. My given name is Giselle…it was torture in school as well…

There is a child’s TV program here in Canada called Giselle’s Backyard…new this last year…I almost fainted…!

I don’t know any other Giselle’s, other than my Mother’s best friends’ daughter, whom I was named after in her honor!

So I think you’re lucky!
