remembering in hope

After several months, I finally completed the final step to certify my propery as a National Wildlife Federation Wildlife Habitat. The process of certification was actually easy in this case - I just ran into some glitches filling out the form when I first started, because apparently it wasn't the right time. If you're interested, check out the six steps at: https://secure.nwf.org/backyard/
This process was both a way to remember my parents, and celebrate the life of my friend and former significant other who died a few days ago. My father designed this house where I live to be ecologically sound in the early 1970s, and my mother spent much of the rest of her life cultivating an organic environment that was bird and animal friendly. After she died several years ago, I let the yard go completly wild except for the driveway and turn around.
My friend was drawn to beautiful natural places - and he loved spending time with me here on these three acres of woodlands that are somewhat in contrast to the manicured properties in the rest of this neighborhood that's partway between small town Ohio and suburbia.
I hope to sell the property soon - and perhaps the certification will encourage the next owner(s) to keep this land as hospitable to various creatures as possible.

Help

oh, Sylvia, i responded to this post a while back but now i recall that the Gaia monster ate it and i didnt have time to repeat it. i hope that no response here has not discouraged you. i know how that can be, just natural hopes and expectations. seems some folks flock like bees to flowers to some folks blogs and before you know it, 46 people will be posting there. meanwhile, you submit something meaningful and beautiful and hardly hear a boo, go figure. i reckon some folks just draw a regular reader base, deservedly so, and there are those who play together often and well, many now of whom have been meetign f2f. i am catching up a bit by having my first f2f recently, but all this is not why i replied….
i simply wanted to respond to your blog post specifically and say that i think its so great what you are doing–savign a corner of the earth like that. and you must, must meet Debyeman (deborah) whose home is similar. she is a naturalist and a lovely writer and i think you tow may click if you havent already. but if you do, please dont leave me in the dust! just kidding, but that was my shadow side making an appearance!
I will send you a link to Over the Rhine, a band you must hear form Ohio. No, it is not German! OTR is a neighborhood name in a town in Ohio with railroad tracks that divide the classes…Karen Berquist is such alovely vocalist and soul.

Hi, Mary - a sister of my heart is in law school in Cinci - she's shared with me that the neighborhood Over the Rhine is a focus of many of the tougher social justice issues in the city. Since I have dial-up at home, I'm only getting snatches of the music … what I'm catching is beautiful.
One of my favorite peace and justice folk singer/songwriters is Fred Small:

Thank you for persisting and reposting on this blog :-).
loving hugs and sweet dreams -
